Hello AIHA-RMS Members:
This webinar is being offered FREE through an OSHA Grant with the University of South Florida. Presented by local section member, Renee HartsookPhD, DABT – Occupational Toxicologist.
Description:
Our primary hazard communication instrument, the Safety Data Sheet (SDS), is a critical tool for OEHS professionals yet it is often not fully understood by the reader. The Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), adopted in the United States in 2013, simplified hazard communication. Through a series of simple alpha-numeric codes and standardized criteria, the language of hazard has become increasingly consistent. However, not every hazard posed by a chemical will prompt classification under GHS yet some of these hazards require consideration in risk assessments. Attendees will learn strategies for vetting the quality of a Safety Data Sheet and how to fully understand the hazards presented by the material. A workbook will be provided for download prior to the lecture.
